Re: Strike at University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus and MINITEX Services
The University announced that on August 24, 2007, three AFSCME locals delivered a notice of intent to strike to the University. The strike will begin Wednesday, September 5, 2007. This situation is being covered by the media and reports are appearing in the Twin Cities newspapers. Please pass this on to appropriate staff.
This potential situation could affect some of the MINITEX staff, who are AFSCME – represented staff – the Document Delivery and Delivery areas would be the most affected. There could be delays in some services provided by MINITEX during this period.
We will continue to provide MINITEX services during this period and we have taken steps within the office to make staff adjustments and re-assignments in order to provide those services. The majority of staff is being re-directed to assisting the Document Delivery and Delivery units in order to process interlibrary loan requests.
We will send regular notices to our Delivery Contact list should courier service be affected. At this time, we don’t anticipate courier services will be curtailed – we anticipate that courier drivers will continue to pick up and deliver bins.
